GuideLive.com was the Friday entertainment guide for The Dallas Morning News, highlighting concerts, movies, exhibits, and everything happening across DFW for the weekend. The goal was to increase readership and position GuideLive.com as the go‑to resource for anyone trying to decide what to do.

The Challenge

Readers weren’t lacking options — they were overwhelmed by them. The real barrier wasn’t information; it was indecision. People struggled to choose where to go, what to see, or what to eat, often ending up in circular, frustrating conversations that led nowhere.

The Insight

Market research revealed a universal truth: The hardest part of going out is deciding what to do. Everyone recognized the same back‑and‑forth dialogue — the indecisive couple, the bickering family, the “I don’t care, you pick” routine. This insight became the foundation of the campaign.

The Approach

We recreated those conversations verbatim — the chaos, the humor, the indecision — and used them as the centerpiece of the ads. Bright color fields, bold typography, and conversational text blocks pulled readers in and made the ads instantly relatable. Each execution ended with a simple directive: go to GuideLive.com first.

The concept resonated strongly with readers. Post‑campaign tracking showed a notable lift in ad recall, with research indicating that over 70% of surveyed readers recognized the campaign and associated it with GuideLive’s weekend recommendations.

My Role

As Creative Director, I worked closely with market research to translate behavioral insights into a clear creative concept. I led the design direction, using color, typography, and layout to amplify the humor and relatability of the conversations. I also guided the team through execution, ensuring consistency and clarity throughout the campaign.
